Sometimes the most unusual of combinations can rally work. Pairings like Laurel and Hardy or Sauvignon Blanc and raw oysters can make for an experience that’s greater than the sum of their parts. This is just what the Volks at VW have done with their latest acquisition, Italian motorcycle firm Ducati.

In an unlikely amalgamation they dropped a 197 hp, two-cylinder engine from an 1199 Superleggera sport bike into an XL-1, Volkswagen’s hyper-efficient coupe. Thanks to the abundant use of carbon fiber this unusual performance car weighs less than a literal ton and can hit 60 miles an hour in just 5.7 seconds. It looks cools, more than likely drives well and probably sounds like banshee. When can we evaluate one?
