New Mazdaspeed3 Could Use AWD
The next-generation Mazdaspeed3 could be getting all-wheel drive, since the new Mazda3 shares its underpinnings with the CX-5 SUV.
In a recent interview, Mazda3 deputy program manager Takeo Mariuchi confirmed that “From a technical point of view it’s not difficult to install a four-wheel-drive system,” onto the Mazda3. Unfortunately, the Japanese automaker won’t confirm that a Mazdaspeed3 model is in the works, but it is on the radar and the factory is “still sort of considering it.”
The Mazdaspeed3 could also benefit from new-age turbocharger technology if it ever gets greenlit. But considering how popular compact hatchbacks with plenty of power have become, it would be a surprise if the Mazdaspeed3 doesn’t go into development rather soon.
