2015 VW Jetta to Receive Mid-Cycle Refresh; Sportwagen to Become a Golf

The Volkswagen Jetta will receive a mid-cycle refresh before the end of this year, in the process dropping the Sportwagen model, which will instead be branded as a Golf.

Don’t expect any major changes to the Jetta, however, with updated limited to subtle styling tweaks, new paint colors, wheel designs and updates to the interior. VW already made substantial changes to the car for 2014, with a fully independent rear suspension now standard across the lineup, while the archaic 2.5-liter 5-cylinder was dropped in favor of a new turbocharged 1.8-liter 4-cylinder.

The Jetta SportWagen will disappear, but in name only, and will sport the Golf nameplate from here on out in the U.S..

As for what we can expect from the German automaker in the near future, the new GTI will be the first model to launch this year, followed by the standard Golf and electric e-Golf. The Golf will also arrive in North American with a TDI diesel model as well as the more powerful Golf R.
