Honda Reveals 3.5L V6 Prototype Racing Engine
Honda Performance Development (HPD) has announced a new race-ready version of the 3.5-liter V6 engine that is already found in many Honda road cars.
The Honda HR35TT twin-turbocharged V6, as the engine is known, will make its debut in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (USCC) at the 2014 12 Hours of Sebring. It will be used in both a Riley Gen3 prototype chassis campaigned by Starworks Motorsport, and a prototype class HPD ARX-03b Honda race car campaigned by Extreme Speed Motorsports.
Running in the prototype class at USCC means that the engine must make between 450 and 600 hp, while the cars must be limited to a top speed of 190 mph. The engine is derived from the J35 series of production Honda V6 engines, and will use twin-turbochargers along with direct injection.
Some version of this engine may end up in the upcoming Acura NSX, which means that the car will make at least 450 hp from its gasoline engine, though it will be mated to an electric motor which will boost the output.
