Next-Gen BMW 5 Series Spied for the First Time

The next-generation BMW 5 Series has begun testing on roadways.

Looking much like a smaller version of the 7 Series, AutoGuide.com‘s spy photographers have caught what appears to be a prototype plug-in hybrid variant of the new 5 Series testing with an extra charger cap on the front fender.

Expected to debut in 2016, the BMW 5 Series will benefit from a comprehensive lineup, ranging from a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder-equipped model to the range-topping M5. The 5 Series will go on a slight diet as well, losing around 220 lbs compared to the current model.
