New Amazon ‘Top Gear’ Reportedly has a $250M Budget

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will reportedly have a $250-million budget for their new show on Amazon Instant Video.

Although the former Top Gear trio still doesn’t have a name for their new show, it is being reported that Amazon won out on the deal largely because it will be ponying up a budget of nearly $7-million per episode across the 36-episode deal. Not only does that budget make it Amazon’s biggest original content show to date, but it’ll also be one of the most expensive U.K. shows ever.

According to producer Andy Wilman, the team’s main demands when looking at various offers were: complete editorial freedom, plenty of money and no car-related advertisements. And while Netflix and other U.S. services were interested, as well as ITV, Wilman said that “everyone” they talked to in regards to the Amazon deal said that Amazon will leave them alone to make their show.

Whatever the show will be called, the trio is expected to launch sometime in fall 2016 with episodes around an hour long that will be released on a weekly basis in the U.S., U.K. and Germany. Like the previous Top Gear, it will have indoor studio features as well as the team’s iconic global adventures and challenges.
