Jaguar Readying Inline-Six Engine, Electric F-Pace Crossover

Jaguar’s first all-electric vehicle will likely be a crossover based on the new F-Pace.

Don’t expect the British automaker to simply take the current F-Pace and outfit it with an electric powertrain, however, as the company will tweak the model’s aerodynamics to improve range. The company is reportedly targeting a drag coefficient of 0.28, making it one of the world’s most aerodynamic crossovers, if not the most aerodynamic. Jaguar might name the electric F-Pace model the E-Pace, and expect to see the sleeker, all-electric crossover to be assembled by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.

Earlier this year, Jaguar was spied testing an XE sedan with an electric powertrain and the company has filed a trademark for EV-Type in the U.S. and Europe.

But before the E-Pace heads to production, Jaguar and Land Rover plans on updating its engine lineup by replacing the outdated V6 mills with inline-six engines derived from the new Ingenium engine family. Due to arrive in late 2017, the new six-cylinder engine will come in the form of a 3.0-liter turbocharged unit with horsepower ranging from 300 to 500 for standard gasoline versions while the diesel versions will have 275, 335 and 400 hp.
