It Sounds like the Chrysler Pacifica has an Engine Stalling Issue

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is under pressure to recall its Chrysler Pacifica minivan for a potential stalling issue.

Automotive News reports there were at least 99 consumer complaints on NHTSA’s Safercar.gov website involving the Pacifica, with dozens of them alleging the minivan had stalled at various speeds or while idling. The Center for Auto Safety is asking NHTSA to open an investigation and issue an immediate recall of the affected Pacifica minivans.

Along with stalling complaints, some consumers have mentioned multiple losses of power. But the Center for Auto Safety said neither Chrysler nor its service technicians have been able to replicate the alleged stalling, and the automaker has not yet determined a cause. So far, no fatalities or significant injuries have been reported related to the alleged problem.

The Center for Auto Safety is arguing the Pacifica’s stalling problem has been known internally since April, but the automaker has yet to issue a recall because it has not identified the cause. “Just as it is not necessary for Chrysler to identify the exact cause of the defect before it provides its owners loaner vehicles for their safety, NHTSA should not wait for a body count to exercise its authority under the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act to ensure consumer safety,” said Jason Levine, the center’s executive director.

Raising more eyebrows, some dealers are reportedly asking customers to continue driving with a data recorder to help determine the cause of the failure. “Asking people to service as crash-test dummies is not acceptable, Levine said.
