Mercedes-Benz Still Insists on Releasing Teasers for its New G-Class

Mercedes-Benz Still Insists on Releasing Teasers for its New G-Class

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class will make its world premiere at an event prior to the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

The German automaker has confirmed full details on the new G-Class will be revealed on January 14, ahead of the SUV going on display in Detroit. Unfortunately for Mercedes, images of the new G-Class have already leaked, giving us an idea of what to expect at the actual unveiling.

The teaser image Mercedes has shared doesn’t show much, and unless you’re a hardcore G-Class fan, you might not even be able to tell the difference or realize it’s a new model. The iconic boxy shape is being retained unsurprisingly, and many of the same body lines remain.

Which all makes sense considering how timeless the design of the G-Class has become over the last few decades. The company has little reason to mess with the SUV’s styling but has updated the front grille and fascia, along with new headlights to go with the smoothed over rear end and rear bumper. So far, what we do know is that the new G-Class rides on a ladder-type frame, with independent double-wishbone front suspension and a rigid rear axle with four longitudinal control arms and a Panhard rod. It will also feature three 100-percent differential locks, a low-range gear ratio, and a nine-speed automatic transmission.

More recently, Mercedes released a video of the new G-Class taking on the Schöckl, as part of the SUV’s extensive teaser campaign.

Check back with AutoGuide.com on January 14 for full details on the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class once it’s properly unveiled, although we suspect more teasers are on the way.
