Ally is an online bank that provides banking, home loan, investment, corporate finance, and dealer financial services. Ally started selling insurance in the 1960s and a form of modern day auto warranty as early as 1973.
Today, you can use Ally to secure personal and business loans for vehicle financing. Ally also offers vehicle service contracts and gap insurance. In the last decade, it has paid out over $2.3 billion in claims.
Ally Extended Warranty Coverage
There are three Ally Premier Protection plans: Ultra, Core, and Tech. Each comes with a $100 deductible. Coverage details are described in the chart below.

Coverage begins 30 days after enrollment on a month-to-month and renewing basis. All plans are transferable if your vehicle is sold and include a 60-day money-back guarantee.
Coverage offered by Ally Premier Protection plans is pretty good. The Ultra plan is quite comprehensive. While coverage excludes batteries—which are sometimes covered by other providers—it does include safety components such as seatbelts. A broken seat belt can be expensive and isn’t often a covered repair under extended warranty agreements.
Perks
All plans come with the following additional benefits:
- 24/7 roadside assistance: Reimbursement for towing and roadside services up to $100
- Rental vehicle reimbursement: Reimbursement up to $40 per day for a maximum of $240
- Trip interruption protection: Hotel and meal reimbursement up to $150 a day for a maximum of $750
Restrictions
There is no maximum mileage limit for Ally extended warranty coverage. As long as your vehicle is eligible for coverage, you can maintain your contract. To be eligible for coverage, a vehicle can be no more than 13 model years old.
One last thing to note is that if you drive more than 20,000 miles a year, your deductible will be increased to $500. Ally Premier Protection may not be a good choice if you drive a lot.
Ally Premier Protection Cost
The cost of any extended warranty varies depending on the vehicle. Older vehicles and certain brands are sometimes more expensive to protect than others. More inclusive contracts are of course more expensive.
We called Ally and asked for quotes for a 2017 Ford Explorer with 45,500 miles and were offered the following quotes for a $100 deductible plan:
- Flex Coverage Core: $45/month
- Flex Coverage Ultra: $103/month
Ally offers plans as low as $32 per month, so it is possible to get an even lower rate if you purchase protection for a newer vehicle.
These prices are average for the industry. $45 is one of the lowest monthly rates we have seen, but over the course of a three-year contract ends up being on par with other providers. $103 is also a very low monthly payment for bumper-to-bumper coverage. However, over the course of a five-year contract, this ends up being more expensive than most competitors, though not by a lot.
Quotes and Claims Processes
The quotes process for an Ally extended warranty is quite easy. Simply call and be ready with your vehicle year, make, model, mileage, and vehicle identification number (VIN).
When we asked for quotes, the customer service representative was courteous and patient. Many extended warranty providers are plagued by pushy salespeople, but this was not our experience with Ally. The entire quotes process took less than 10 minutes.
Claims
To file a claim with Ally, take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility in the US or Canada and present your customer ID number. The repair facility will manage the paperwork, and Ally pays the facility directly.
You can also contact Ally through an instant messaging feature on its website, and a customer service representative can assist you and answer questions.
Ally Premier Protection Ratings and Reviews
Ally Bank has been around for a long time. It is a large company that deals with customers across a number of businesses. The Ally extended warranty is just one of its many products.
Ally is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but it does have an A+ BBB rating. The company has received more than 1,200 complaints through the BBB in the past three years. This may sound like a lot, but it is a small fraction of the customers that Ally serves. And of the complaints filed with the BBB against Ally, only seven relate to auto warranty products.
Ally Extended Warranty: 4.0 Stars
Ally financial services have been around for a long time, and the company has garnered a strong industry reputation. An Ally Premier Protection Plan offers comprehensive coverage at a reasonable monthly rate.
An Ally extended warranty may be a good choice for customers with a low monthly budget, as it offers one of the lowest monthly rates that we have seen. However, this low rate comes with a long-term cost. Over the course of a three- or five-year contract, you will end up paying more for an Ally extended warranty.
Coverage offered by Ally is standard, though it does include coverage for car safety features—something not typically included in bumper-to-bumper extended warranty contracts.
