Ford Fiesta RS Rumored

While the thought of an ultra hot-hatch version of the new Focus has been under consideration for quite some time, Ford is also now considering, instead, the possibility of a Fiesta RS.

The reason for the shift in thinking comes as SVT boss Jost Capito has left the company for Volkswagen. The idea of an even smaller hot hatch also makes sense globally as the Fiesta is the car Ford uses in the World Rally Championship.

Arguments to stick with the Focus RS are just as strong. Sticking with a concept that works may be too attractive an option for Ford to ignore, while the larger presence the Focus has in North America also factors in. Plus, being a larger car, there’s a profit margins should be larger too.

Ford has yet to admit it is planning either car, an instead is focusing on its ST models. The Focus ST is set to launch within the month, sporting a 247 hp 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine. As for the Fiesta ST, it’s yet to be confirmed for North America, but a concept car shown at the LA Auto Show last fall sported a 180 hp 1.6-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine. Could that 2.0-liter find it’s way into the Fiesta RS? Time will tell.
