Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet Caught Testing in Spy Photos

Introduced at the Worthersee GTI meet as a concept, the Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet has now been caught testing by our spy photographers, dressed up like a GTI for a disguise.  

The car will get its power from a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder sourced from the standard Golf R making 265-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-62 mph time of under 6.0 seconds. As the fastest open-top Golf ever, the car also gets some sporty upgrades such as a lower suspension and mid-mounted rear exhaust.

Although the front bumper and tailpipes on this car make it look like a GTI, the larger wheels and bigger brakes tip off the fact that it is the more powerful R version. Interior style will also be boosted on the car, with piano black accents, color themed sport seats and carbon fiber.

A Volkswagen representative told Autoguide that there are no plans to bring the Golf R Convertible to America, but did mention that the next generation Golf R Cabriolet has not been ruled out for sale in the US.
