G.E. WattStation Home Charger Blamed for Nissan Leaf Malfunction

Owners of the Nissan Leaf that are using G.E.’s WattStation home charger should be cautious and discontinue using it to be on the safe side.

Several reports are confirming that the WattStation is the culprit for causing damage to the Leaf’s onboard charging system and G.E. Energy has issued out a statement that the company is working closely with the Japanese automaker to determine the cause of the issue. It appears that the issue doesn’t impact any other electric cars on the market, just the Nissan Leaf.

According to G.E., the charging issue has been “raised by 11 Nissan Leaf owners,” some of them which have spoken up on the Internet. One owner claims he used his WattStation six or seven times when one time he plugged it in again and “everything went off.” His local dealership concluded that the Leaf’s onboard charging system had malfunctioned.

It doesn’t seem to be a problem with all Leaf owners however, as many of them have said they have no issues with their WattStations. Either way, you should be cautious and aware of the potential problems that could arise.
