Custom Shelby GT500 Sports 850 HP in Tribute to Carroll Shelby
In honor of the late Carroll Shelby, Ford Motor Company, Shelby American, and Ford Racing teamed up to create a one-of-a-kind Mustang GT500 that debuted today at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, as part of the Concours d’Elegance.
The car uses the standard 5.8-litre aluminum-block V8 from the GT500, with an added blast of power coming from a Ford Racing 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger, bumping the output to 850 hp. To handle all the added power, upgraded brakes are tacked on, as well as 13-inch-wide rear wheels wrapped in 345-section high-performance tires.
For looks the custom ‘Stang gets a unique hood and a new rear wide-body kit that gives the car a wider more pronounced stance. Packing in the nostalgia is the historical Guardsman Blue paint complete with Wimbledon White stripes.
As part of the announcement, Ford also revealed that a road at its Product Development Center in Dearborn, Mich., has also been re-named in honor of Mr. Shelby.
