2014 Mazda CX-9 Revealed Ahead of Sydney Motor Show Debut

Ahead of its debut at the Sydney Motor Show, Mazda has revealed a facelifted version of its CX-9 people mover.

The profile of the CX-9 remains mostly unchanged, while the front grille has been updated to incorporate the brand’s new Kodo design language first seen on the Shinari concept and then the CX-5 crossover. Mazda is promising a more refined interior, along with a new infotainment system and improved speech-recognition features.

As previously reported by AutoGuide, power will continue to come from the brand’s 3.7-liter V6, though Mazda has made no mention of a rumored platform update for the mid-size crossover. Past reports had indicated the car would make use of an all-new SkyActiv platform, helping it shed weight and improve fuel economy.

There’s also the possibility that Mazda will eventually offer the CX-9 in North America with its new 2.2-liter diesel engine making roughly 170-hp and over 300 lb-ft of torque. That motor will arrive next year in the all-new Mazda6.
