Audi RS 6 Avant is a 560 HP Grocery Getter

The Audi RS 6 Avant has become official, with the German automaker revealing that it’ll trade it’s twin-turbo V10 for a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 engine with 560 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

The twin-turbo V8 engine can accelerate the RS 6 Avant to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds, which Audi claims is a segment best. According to the European driving cycle, the RS 6 Avant is estimated to achieve around 24 mpg in America, a 40-percent decrease in fuel consumption compared to its predecessor.

Mated to the 4.0-liter TFSI engine is an eight-speed tiptronic transmission with ‘D’ or ‘S’ driving modes. Drivers can also shift the wagon themselves with paddles on the steering wheel or the selector lever, which sports a unique RS design. At the heart of the quattro all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring is a self-locking center differential with an elevated locking value.

As for the suspension, the RS 6 Avant will be the first RS model in Audi’s lineup that will come standard with specifically tuned air suspension. The vehicle can be lowered by 0.79-inch while the system combines the air suspension with controlled damping and takes into account the road conditions for the optimal ride.

Coming stock are 20-inch wheels, while 21-inch wheels are available as an option. Also, compared to its predecessor, the RS 6 Avant is 220-lbs lighter thanks to a generous use of aluminum. Buyers can opt for two optional appearance packages, Matte Aluminum or Carbon, to further customize the look of their RS 6 Avant.
