2014 Nissan Versa Note Adds Style, Versatility

Nissan’s bargain-bin sub-compact hatchback gets a series of improvements for the 2014 model year including segment-exclusive technology.

When the little hatch goes on sale this summer, it will feature an active shutter grille and a continuously-variable  transmission both of which Nissan says will help the car achieve up to 40 mpg and a starting MSRP of $13,990.

Aside from that, the car features available a NissanConnect infotainment system with navigation, a rear-view camera and “AroundView” monitoring – a feature exclusive to the Versa Note within its class.

Unfortunately, the standard equipment is still sparse at best with features like heated seats and Bluetooth both included, but only as extra-cost options. In fact, must-have amenities like a USB input are also listed under optional equipment.

Still, some of the other options are useful like an adjustable rear load floor as part of a class-leading 21.4 cubic-feet of cargo space. What is an adjustable rear load floor? Well, it’s a panel that can be removed for more space or replaced to hide valuables, Christmas presents or anything embarrassing you might not want passers by seeing.

When the Versa reached the U.S. market, it was something of an oddball, but with sub-compacts cropping up from several other automakers, Nissan is finding new competition.
