Chevy Bringing Five Cars to Detroit that You Can’t Have

As part of a push to brand itself as a global automaker, Chevrolet is bringing five new vehicles to its 2013 Detroit Auto Show display that will not be offered in the U.S.

All five models, the Trax, Orlando, Sail, Spin and Onix were developed outside the U.S., specifically for certain global markets.

The Chevy Trax is already available in Mexico and Canada, and marks Chevy’s entry into the small SUV market. For buyers in the U.S., the Buick Encore is available, which is based on the Trax.

The Orlando sits somewhere between a crossover and MPV, and offers the best fuel-economy of any non-hybrid seven seat vehicles on the market. The Orlando is built in South Korea and is currently on sale exclusively in Canada.

Next is the Sail, a small city car designed for young Chinese families. In addition to China, the Sail also sells in Chile, Peru and Bolivia.

The Chevy Spin, much like the Orlando, is a seven-seat MPV designed for tight city driving. It is built in Bekasi, Indonesia, and will hit market in Thailand and Indonesia in 2013.

Finally, Chevy will display the Onix, a small hatchback that is built and sold in Brazil. The Onix can run on 100 percent ethanol, or a flex-fuel mixture of gasoline and ethanol.

Alongside these five pieces of forbidden fruit will be the new 2014 Chevy Corvette, and all new 2014 Chevy Silverado.
