Nissan Compact Sports Car in the Works
Nissan is planning on a new, smaller sports car to add to its lineup and the Japanese automaker will be showing it off in concept form within a year.
Now before everyone gets excited that this is the rumored successor to the 240SX, it appears that it isn’t. Nissan executive vice president, Andy Palmer, recently spoke about the new sports car stating that it’ll follow in the path of the Nissan Juke – that is, it’ll feature a “love it or hate it” style.
So why won’t it be a spiritual successor to the 240SX? According to Nissan, the new sports car won’t compete with the Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ, and will sit beneath the 370Z in its lineup. Palmer described the vehicle as “guilt-free” which hints that it may be a hybrid or even an electric vehicle.

Two years ago, at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Nissan debuted its ESFLOW concept which essentially sported the Leaf’s powertrain in a sports car body. It appears that the Japanese automaker is leaning towards that direction for its smaller sports car.
