Volkswagen Golf-e EV Revealed Ahead of Geneva Debut

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf will be getting an electric car variant, the Golf-e, which broke cover ahead of its 2013 Geneva Motor Show debut. 

To differentiate itself from a standard Golf, the Golf-e has reshaped grilles on the front end and features mildly different headlights and taillights. On the inside, the German automaker has replaced the traditional tachometer with a pair of smaller gauges with meters presenting relevant information for the EV.

According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the Golf-e is powered by an electric motor that’s good for 115 hp and 199 lb-ft of instant torque. A 26.5-kWh lithium ion battery is located under the rear seats and can be charged in 20 minutes using a quick charge system. A standard socket will charge the Golf-e in five hours and offers a driving range of 109 miles depending on the conditions.
