Kia Hot Hatches Debut at Geneva Motor Show

Kia has unveiled its most performance-focused models ever today at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, with the oddly named pro_cee’d GT and cee’d GT badges.

Powered by turbocharged 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engines, the two hatches both make 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Both models were designed, developed, and manufactured in Europe – which means North American won’t be seeing either anytime soon.

The standard transmission on either model is a six-speed manual, and according to Kia, the front-wheel drive cars hit 62 mph in 7.7 seconds with a top speed of 143 mph. Both vehicles feature new front grilles and lamp clusters, deeper bumpers, jewel-like four-point LED daytime running lights, new fog lights, dual-exhaust pipes, 18-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and a range of special paint finishes.

Inside, the hatches are even more aptly equipped as performance models. Recaro sport seats along with alloy pedals and a seven-inch, race car inspired TFT instrument cluster adds to the vehicle’s excitement.

Production on the cee’d and pro_cee’d GT models will begin in mid-May 2013 and cars will be available in Europe starting mid-year. Pricing and final specifications will be announced closer to the sale date.

While we won’t ever see these new hot hatches in North America, Kia will offer a 201-hp turbocharged Forte 5-Door on our shores. Close enough?
