Mercedes E-Class Under Investigation for Fuel Leak
After fielding 533 complaints, Mercedes-Benz and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are looking into a possible fuel leak in roughly 250,000 E-Class luxury cars.
Complaints about a strong gasoline odor, mostly after refueling, prompted the probe. There haven’t been any fires or injuries reported as a result of the possible defect so far. This is an expansion on a problem that surfaced last year with complaints about model year 2003 to 2006 E55 AMG sport sedans.
Now, the investigation is expanded to E-Class cars ranging from model years 2003 to 2008 and ventures beyond the high-performance AMG models. A recall is possible, but won’t happen until the NHTSA inquiry progresses further.
