BMW M4 to Debut in Detroit Without Manual Transmission

This past weekend at Pebble Beach, BMW unveiled the Concept M4 Coupe, garnering plenty of attention as it previews the all-new M4 that is now set to make its official debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. When it does arrive, however, one important piece of the puzzle will be missing.

Originally rumored to debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show, it appears that the German automaker will wait until 2014 to unveil its next, great production sports car.

Though it’s still unconfirmed, the new M4 is expected to be powered by a new 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six engine that will generate around 450 horsepower. The bad news is, the M4 will NOT be coming with a manual transmission, not even as an option. Instead, buyers will be stuck with a dual-clutch transmission as standard. It appears that BMW is taking some notes from Porsche’s new GT3.
