Toyota Recalling 803K Vehicles for AC Condenser Leak

Toyota has announced a voluntary recall of about 803,000 vehicles over problems with a leaky air conditioning condenser unit.

The 2012 and 2013 Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid and Venza are affected by the issue, which involves water leaking from the air conditioning condenser unit. If that water leaks on the airbag control module, it can cause a short circuit, resulting in the airbag warning light coming on. In some cases, it may be enough to either disable the airbag, or to set off the airbag inadvertently.

Power steering functions are also at risk thanks to this leak, as in some instances a communication line in the airbag module can be damaged, causing loss of power steering functions.

Toyota dealers will apply sealant along with installing a cover over the air conditioner unit to remedy the problem.
