Volkswagen Beetle R Mule Spied Testing

Volkswagen has begun development on its wildest bug ever: the Beetle R. 

Latest spy photos reveal a Beetle R mule sporting big brakes and the R-Line package styling, but the production model is expected to have a more aggressive design. It is expected that the same 2.0-liter found in the new Golf R will be lurking under the hood with 300 hp. The Beetle R will also be available with optional all-wheel drive.

The Beetle R is expected to arrive in dealerships late next year. According to AutoGuide‘s spy photographers, the Beetle R mule had a deeper and sportier tone from its exhaust than what you’d expect from your typical Beetle model.
