BMW 2013 LA Auto Show Lineup Announced
BMW has announced its lineup of cars heading to the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, including the world premiere of the 4 Series Convertible and the U.S. debut of the i3 and i8 models.
The 4 Series Convertible will make a fitting L.A. debut under the bright Hollywood lights, marking the beginning of a new era for BMW’s popular open-air model. With the company’s new nomenclature, the 4 Series convertible will replace the previous 3 Series convertible but will still feature the German automaker’s open-top, four-seater design. The 4 Series Convertible has a three-part, folding hardtop that can be opened in less than 20 seconds with the push of a button.
The production variants of the BMW i3 and i8 models debuted earlier this year in Europe, but will be shown on North American soil this month. The BMW i3 is the first luxury vehicle designed from the get-go to be powered solely by electricity. Seating five, the i3 is powered by a 170-hp electric motor and has a range of 80 to 99 miles depending on driving conditions. The i8 on the other hand, which arrives at dealerships next year, is a sports car of a new generation. It features a twin-turbo three-cylinder gasoline engine delivering 231 hp along with a 131-hp electric motor. Thanks to both engines, the i8 can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.4 seconds.
Joining those vehicles are the new 2014 BMW X5 and the BMW Concept X4.
