Next-Gen Ferrari California to Feature Twin-Turbo V8 Engine

Last year, a Ferrari California mule was spotted testing with a turbocharged engine and it appears that the powerplant will make its way to the next-generation model.

The next-generation Ferrari California will be the first production Ferrari road car to be powered by a turbocharged engine since the F40. Rumor has it that the powerplant will be a twin-turbo V8 related in design to the twin-turbo V8 used by Maserati in its new models. The engine however will feature all Ferrari components.

Maserati’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine is good for 523 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, which already trumps the 483 hp and 372 lb-ft of torque from the naturally-aspirated V8 in the current California (above). It won’t be just about the new engine as the next-generation California will get new body panels and an updated interior. Best of all, the new California is expected to make its debut next spring, likely in Geneva.
