Lexus IS F CCS-R Used to Test RC F Engine: Report

The Lexus IS F CCS-R was more than just a race car, the Japanese automaker used it to help develop its new RC F coupe.

It has now been revealed that the IS F CCS-R competed in last year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and the 25 Hours of Thunderhill with the 5.0-liter V8 engine that will be powering the RC F coupe. The powerplant was an early development unit and was used in the IS F CCS-R race car.

The Japanese automaker actually has several IS F CCS-Rs, some in Japan, a trio in Germany and the one in the U.S. According to RC F Chief Engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi, the CCS-R did partake in the development of the RC F coupe, though he declined to get into specifics. But considering the CCS-R exclusively competed in endurance races in the U.S., it was essentially an undercover development vehicle for the RC F coupe.
