Next Audi RS4 to Get Turbo Six-Cylinder Engine
The next-generation Audi RS4 will swap out its V8 powerplant for a turbocharged V6 engine.
The downsizing of the RS4’s engine shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering Europe’s increasing emissions laws and the fact that other German automakers have turned to six-cylinder engines in their sports cars.
BMW, for example, is using a 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight-six engine for its new M3 and M4 models. And despite the fact that Audi tends to use superchargers for some of its high-performance powerplants, the German automaker will be switching to turbochargers for its RS models.

During the 2000 and 2001 model year RS4s, Audi gave its sedan a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 tuned by Cosworth with 375 hp, but that powerplant was only available in Europe. It is still unknown if Audi will bring its next-generation RS4 to North America.
