2015 Subaru Outback Previewed in Spy Photos
Spy photographers have managed to snap some photos of the all-new 2015 Subaru Outback as it undergoes testing in Europe. The crossover-ish sort of station wagon has been on the market since 2009 and is overdue for a redesign.
Dressed like Darth Vader in clunky black camouflage it’s a little hard to see what’s new about this prototype. But if you look closely you’ll notice that the windshield appears to be raked at a slightly steeper angle and the body seems a little leaner than today’s version.
Projector-beam headlamps and more aggressive creases on the hood indicate there are some new styling elements and perhaps a more masculine design. Peeking through the holes in its muzzle, the grille looks like it’s comprised of a few straight horizontal bars.
The side-view mirrors have been moved from the base of the A-pillars to the doors, a decision a lot of automakers are making because it helps provide better aerodynamics reduced interior noise. It’s a prominent feature of other Subarus.
We wouldn’t be surprised if the new Outback drew a lot of design inspiration from the company’s Viziv and Viziv 2 concepts, that latter of which was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show a few weeks ago. It may also offer a hybrid drivetrain when it goes into production.
Under the hood we expect the company to offer a lineup of familiar engines. The base powerplant will probably be a 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder while the up-market version will probably be a 2.0-liter turbo. Thanks to forced induction a six-cylinder option will likely NOT be offered.
Production of the 2015 Subaru Outback is expected to start in June; its official unveiling should take place at the New York Auto Show next month. Stay tuned for all the details…
