Chevy Camaro Z/28 Chosen as Indy 500 Pace Car
General Motors is once again providing the pace car for the legendary Indy 500, and this year a three-time winner of the race will be driving it.
Retired Indy Car driver and three-time Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti will pilot a 2015 Chevy Camaro Z/28 pace car at the upcoming Indy 500. This marks the eighth time a Camaro has been used as the pace car, and the 25th time that a Chevrolet has acted as pace car. Last year, a 2014 Corvette Stingray was used as the pace car.
Franchitti now serves on the Chip Ganassi Racing team in a driver development role. “It is a tremendous honor for me to be asked to drive the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500,” said Franchitti. “Although I won’t be competing in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, this will be as close as one person can get to the action. I can’t wait until May in Indianapolis.”
The race will run on Sunday, May 25.
