Volkswagen Confirms New Phaeton in Product Plans

The next-generation Volkswagen Phaeton will be “class leading,” according to Heinz-Jacob Neusser, the German automaker’s head of development.

According to Neusser, “the next Phaeton has to be class leading” in addition to being “very smooth and luxurious” to drive. Despite poor sales, the Phaeton remains an important part of Volkswagen’s lineup as not only a luxury sedan offering but a technology flagship for the brand. The technologies developed for the Phaeton is often applied to models throughout Volkswagen’s lineup at a more affordable price. The new Phaeton will be based on Volkswagen’s next-generation MLB platform, which is currently in development.

In related news, Volkswagen will also be focusing on more plug-in hybrid variants for its lineup and continues to remain committed to pure electric vehicles.
