Scion FR-S Yearly Updates Promised By Lead Engineer

Despite reports of unsatisfactory sales, Tetsuya Tada, lead engineer of the Scion FR-S, Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ took to Facebook to tease new updates to the rear-wheel drive sports-car.

In a Facebook post Tada is quoted, saying “Sports cars must be updated every year. That’s a promise from me to all 86 fans”

It’s hard to argue with Tada’s enthusiasm, but recent updates have been on the minor side of things. 2013 saw the introduction of the special edition series 10 models which featured a unique paint finish, automatic climate control, push-button start and LED day-time running lights. Then in 2014 FR-S models were outfitted with better radio head-units and padded areas so drivers don’t bang their knees on the doors. 2014 also saw the release of a new Monogram special edition model with more creature comforts like heated Alcantara trimmed seating.

Of course, enthusiasts are clamoring for a convertible model or more power out of the 2.0-liter boxer engine in the FR-S. However, recent reports have tied the car’s slumping sales with the conclusion that more powerful models have no business case.

However, Tada’s Facebook post also mentions that over 100,000 FR-S/GT86/BRZ models have been delivered to customers since the car’s release in March 2012, adding a bit more numerical weight to the car’s sales worldwide.
