2015 Nissan Murano Bows With Style in NY

Remaining recognizably a Murano, Nissan’s style-conscious crossover just debuted at the 2014 New York Auto Show.

There’s still a 3.5-liter V6 under the hood making 260 hp mated to a CVT that can power the front wheels or all four. That engine works with a CVT and can power either the front wheels or all four.

Nissan says the new Murano is 130 lbs lighter, an attribute that you might expect to offer improved MPGs. On average, it’s supposed to return 20 mpg and that’s exactly the same rating advertised on the current generation.

But even with fuel consumption ratings remaining static, the new Murano will easily catch your attention. Its new styling is striking in person, especially in reference to the head and tail lamps. Nissan calls them boomerang lights, can you guess why?

Inside, the cabin is vastly simplified with 60 percent fewer switches than before. The seats are updated and the center console is widened and the cabin generally has a much more premium feeling. It also has an eight-inch infotainment display and an 11-speaker Bose sound system.

Even if you aren’t in the market for a new crossover, the Murano is still significant to you. That’s because the styling you see it wearing will also characterize other upcoming products like, say, the Maxima.
