Daimler, Nissan Agree on Joint Mexico Production

It appears that Daimler and Nissan have finalized their joint venture deal to produce vehicles in Mexico.

Future Mercedes and Infiniti compact cars will be built in Mexico according to the report at Nissan’s Aguascalientes factory. The compacts being built will be based on Daimler’s front-wheel-drive architecture, which includes the upcoming Infiniti Q30. According to Daimler, the new deal will be the “largest project in the global collaboration of Daimler and the Renault–Nissan Alliance.” Both companies will have a news conference on Friday to announce the plans.

Though Mercedes hasn’t confirmed which models will be produced in Mexico, it is likely that the next-generation A-Class and CLA will see production northwest of Mexico City. Analysts believe Nissan and Mercedes will run joint production to export vehicles to the U.S. starting in 2017.
