Scion FR-S Hybrid Unlikely Says Toyota
Though it could improve performance, a Scion FR-S hybrid is unlikely.
Speaking in an interview with Autocar, Toyota marketing director Fabio Capano stated that the Japanese automaker can surely create a GT86 (FR-S) with hybrid technology, but such a model “needs to make proper business sense.” In other words, Toyota believes an FR-S hybrid doesn’t speak to the majority and would be a poor seller on the market.

As a result, Toyota will be focusing its efforts elsewhere, rather than investing into creating an FR-S hybrid that would ultimately appeal to a small market while incurring quite a bit of cost.
Hybrid sports cars aren’t entirely out of the picture however, as the company is co-developing a larger sports car with BMW that will likely take advantage of a Le Mans-derived hybrid powertrain to enhance its performance.
