BMW 340i Planned Amid Model Name Update
As if BMW‘s lineup isn’t confusing enough, the German automaker may be changing things up again.
According to a recent forum post, the facelifted 3 Series and 4 Series models will bring about changes to the model names with the 328i and 428i becoming 330i and 430i while the 335i and 435i will become the 340i and 440i. Reason being, when the facelifted models debut later this year, they will also feature updated powerplants from the German automaker.

Currently, the 328i and 428i are powered by what’s known as the N20 powerplant (2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder), but the new model will boast a B48 engine. The 335i and 435i, which feature the N55 (3.0-liter turbocharged six cylinder), will then have a B58 under the hood. While it’s unclear whether the new engines will bring additional performance, it is likely the six-cylinder variants will benefit from a 10 to 15 percent increase in horsepower.
