Ferrari Working on Electric Turbo Technology
Add another automaker to the list that is planning to use electric turbo technology.
Ferrari, like Audi, is developing a new powertrain that will utilize an electric turbo to help eliminate conventional turbocharger lag. Starting with a supercharged engine, the Italian automaker is rumored to be pairing it with an electric turbo to not only deliver exceptional performance but help reduce emissions.

The newest model from Ferrari, the California T, features a 3.8-liter V8 turbo engine with 560 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque. There has been rumors that the Italian automaker will introduce a facelifted 458 Italia model incorporating the same turbo powerplant instead of the naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V8 that’s currently used.
Audi plans on bringing its electric turbocharger powertrain to market with the next-generation SQ7, which is due in 2016. Mercedes-Benz has also expressed its interest in using electric turbochargers for its powertrains.
