Subaru Recalls 660K Vehicles for Rusting Brake Lines

If you live in a “salt belt” state and drive a Subaru, there’s a good chance your vehicle is going to be recalled.

Subaru announced today that it will call back over 660,000 vehicles because the brake lines might rust, causing brake fluid to leak. The 2005 to 2009 Outback and Legacy, 2008 to 2011 Impreza, WRX and STI and the 2009 to 2013 Forester are all affected. Owners will be contacted and asked to bring their vehicles in for service. There, a technician will depress the brake pedal and check the lines for leaks. Non-leaking vehicles will be given a rust-proofing treatment while leaking lines will be replaced then rust-proofed.

Cars in the following states are affected by the recall: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

Last year, Subaru announced a recall for the 2005 to 2009 Legacy that covered a similar issue, but those vehicles also need to be rust-proofed in additional areas.
