Armored BMW X5 to Debut at Moscow Motor Show

Armored BMW X5 to Debut at Moscow Motor Show

The latest version of BMW’s armored X5 is heading to the Moscow Motor Show.

Last year, the German automaker showed off its X5 Security in concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show and now the production variant is ready to make its debut in Russia. Based on the production BMW X5, the Security Plus model is nearly indistinguishable in order to not draw attention to itself. It meets Germany’s VR6 standard for occupant protection, which is one level below the VR7 that is met by the BMW 7 Series High Security model.

Details on the X5 Security Plus will likely be released when the model debuts at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show, but expect similarities to the concept model which featured a passenger cell constructed from high-strength steel and polycarbonate windows that won’t shatter into the cabin. The model will be powered by the company’s turbocharged V8 engine with around 450 hp while the engine and chassis has been enhanced to accommodate the extra weight of the armor.
