GM Planning Special Edition Colorado, Canyon Pickups

GM is already planning special editions of its Colorado and Canyon midsize pickup truck siblings.

Speaking at a recent press drive for the new trucks, Brad Schreiber, the ride and handling performance engineer for the midsize twins said there will be a special edition coming for the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado every year for the foreseeable future. “It won’t just be a paint and sticker package either,” he said, declining to offer further details. Currently, you can get the Colorado with the Z71 off-road package, which includes a re-tuned suspension, underbody skid plates and a locking rear differential.

In the past, GM has offered both sport and off-road packages on its midsize pickups, both of which are likely to be reincarnated in the body of the new 2015 Colorado/Canyon. Just last week, Chevy showed off the Colorado Sport Concept, previewing just one of the special edition trucks we may see from the manufacturer.

Recently, GM introduced the Silverado Rally Edition and the Sierra Elevation Edition, although they don’t have performance upgrades, essentially making them paint and sticker packages.
