Renault Eolab Heading to Paris with 235 MPG

Renault may have created the best-looking hybrid Americans will never get.

The French automaker has announced that it will head to this year’s Paris Motor Show with the Eolab concept, a hybrid boasting a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine and a drag coefficient of just 0.235. As a result, it is supposedly capable of achieving up to 235 mpg on the U.S. cycle while having an electric-only range of 37.2 miles. All those figures sound pretty impressive, but what makes the Eolab even better is that it boasts a total system output of 143 hp, or more than a Toyota Prius at 134 hp.

It’s unlikely the Eolab will ever make it to production, but like all concept cars, expect the technology to trickle down to future production models. As the automaker puts it, the Eolab sports “100 new and realistic technological developments that are designed to be introduced on upcoming Renault vehicles.”
