Ssangyong Under Consideration for US Market… Again
Sometime in the not-too-distant future there could be a new Korean car brand showing up in North American auto malls.
Mahindra is conducting an early-stage feasibility study to examine whether Ssangyong is viable for the U.S. market or not. The Indian automaker owns Korea-based Ssangyong Motor Co. and is currently studying which products will make sense for the U.S. and whether it’s financially viable to bring the products over. According to a recent report, the company has been conducting the feasibility study for the past four to six months and has no timetable for when it’ll be completed. The company is looking at bringing multiple Ssangyong products to the U.S., but it won’t happen for at least two to two and a half years after board approval.

With Mahindra at the helm, Ssangyong is investing nearly $1 billion into its product lineup as part of a plan to enter the U.S. and Asian markets, including China. The Korean automaker has also explored the possibilities of manufacturing vehicles in China where it expects sales of 20,000 vehicles this year, over three times as much compared to a year ago.
