Toyota GT86 Rumored to go Turbo, AWD

The on-again, off-again turbo Toyota GT86 rumors are on again.

This time around, the rumor comes from Best Car magazine that’s published in Japan, reporting that Toyota is working on a turbocharged GT86 model with all-wheel drive. Sporting a 2.5-liter flat-four engine built by Subaru, the powerplant will offer up to 300 hp and will be available with an eight-speed automatic transmission to ensure fuel economy is respectable.

The publication also produced a render that shows the GT86 with more aggressive styling including a hood scoop and carbon fiber accessories. As exciting as the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S in America) is to drive, it lacks power with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 hp. Ever since it debuted in North America, enthusiasts have been clamoring for a turbocharged variant and hopefully it’ll become a reality.
