AMG to Keep 6.0L V12, Share 4.0L V8 With Mercedes
V12-powered vehicles from Mercedes-AMG aren’t going to disappear any time soon. Mercedes-AMG will continue to offer V12-powered vehilces, but future versions will use a hybrid powertrain and an updated version of the current mill. AMG CEO Tobias Moers told AutoCar that the 6.0-liter V12 engine will be extensively re-engineered and will include some element of hybridization in order to satisfy Chinese emissions regulations.
The 4.0-liter biturbo V8 at work in the new AMG GT and C63 will also eventually replace the twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 that powers several vehicles in the Mercedes lineup. Mercedes will build its own version of the engine on a standard production line while the AMG versions will be assembled by hand in Affalterbach, Germany.
