Cadillac Readying S-Class Competitor, More Models by 2020

New Cadillac boss Johan de Nysschen isn’t wasting anytime adding to the American automaker’s lineup.

Along with the recently announced CT6 plug-in hybrid, Cadillac has just approved a range-topping luxury sedan that will either sport the CT8 or CT9 nameplate. The new sedan will compete with the BMW 7 Series long-wheelbase and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class as Cadillac seeks to steal some of the luxury segment from its German competitors. But that won’t be all that’s coming from Cadillac, as de Nysschen intends to expand the lineup from five models to 10 by the end of the decade. Those new additions also include a full electric vehicle to complement the ELR plug-in hybrid and CT6.

He also hinted that Cadillac is also mulling over two new crossovers, one above the SRX and one below. In addition, a compact sedan that would be slotted below the current ATS and compete with the BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz CLA is also on the table.

The biggest takeaway from de Nysschen’s recent interview with Reuters is that Cadillac’s lineup will look quite different in 2020 compared to what it is today. In fact he said, “Probably 90 percent of Cadillacs sold in 2020 are cars that are on the drawing board.”
