Boasting 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, the MercedesAMG GT S is the German automaker’s newest luxury sports car.

Making its official debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-AMG is out to prove a point with its GT and GT S models with the more powerful variant accelerating to 60 mph from a standstill in a mere 3.7 seconds. Despite having 456 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, the GT model doesn’t lag far behind with a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. It wouldn’t be fair to compare the all-new GT against the previous SLS flagship, but the GT S does offer just as much torque at a lowly 1,600 RPM in a smaller and lighter package. While that’s to be expected of a turbocharged engine over the old naturally aspirated mill, the new engine – codenamed M178 – uses something called a hot inside V that houses the turbochargers inside the cylinder banks. Consequently they require less space in the engine bay and deliver especially responsive boost.

Enhancing the driving experience, the GT S model has the ability to stiffen or soften the engine and transmission mounts based on your personal preferences. Both powerplants are mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission housed behind the seats and connected to the engine via a transaxle.

Prepare to be impressed with the interior because Mercedes designed it to resemble the cockpit of a jet fighter. For example there are button on the center console laid out to look like the engine’s cylinder configuration. From the driver’s seat you have access to buttons that control variable drive modes that affect the handling, throttle response and shifts.

Unfortunately Mercedes hasn’t announced official pricing on the GT or GT S yet, but expect it to come soon because the car is heading to U.S. showrooms next spring.
