Nissan Leaf Sets New Electric Car Sales Record
Nissan’s all-electric Leaf hatchback is racking up deliveries, in fact it’s the best selling EV in the United States.
How well is this battery-powered car doing? Well, with more than two months remaining in 2014 the Leaf has already broken the record for most EV sales in a calendar year. The previous record was 22,610 and was set in 2013. Ok, that’s a pretty modest number but in topping that figure this car already has a 50 percent lead over its nearest competitor.

Through the month of September year-over-year sales of the Leaf are up 36 percent. More than 142,000 of these eco-friendly cars have been sold since it launched in 2010; some 64,000 of those have been in the U.S.
After an available $7,500 federal tax credit for electric vehicles the Nissan Leaf starts at right around $22,000, which is not too unreasonable. With seating for five and a maximum advertised range of 84 miles the Leaf is certainly a capable EV.
