Porsche 911 Lineup to Get Turbo Treatment in 2015

Porsche is planning an update for its 911 sports car in 2015 and big changes are in store for the powertrains.

When the updated 911 is revealed in autumn 2015, it will offer an all turbocharged engine lineup according to Car Magazine. The only model that will keep its naturally aspirated engine is the race-focused GT3 model, which will put more focus on being lightweight. Like many others in the auto industry, the German brand is trying to reduce CO2 emmisions and increase MPG.

The new engine found in the base 911 Carrera will be a turbocharged 2.9-liter flat six that is said to make around 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Moving up in the range, the Carrera S will be fitted with a turbo 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder that will produce around 530 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque.

Information regarding the fate of the 911 Turbo and Turbo S is still unknown, but if the lineup does adopt turbo engines for the base cars, you can expect the 911 Turbo to get a power boost to maintain a healthy gap between models.
