VW Polo GTI Gets Third Pedal, More Power in Paris

Some tasty forbidden fruit from Volkswagen is getting even sweeter at the Paris Motor Show.

The Volkswagen Polo GTI, little brother of the Golf GTI, has just been revealed at the Paris Motor Show with more power and a new manual transmission option.

Power comes from a 1.8-liter turbocharged four cylinder that has been bumped from 180 hp up to 192, dropping the 0-62 mph time down to 6.7 seconds. Torque is also increased significantly, up from 184 lb-ft to 236 lb-ft. The motor will be paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, but for the first time, Volkswagen will also let you get a six-speed manual.

Some new looks have also been grafted onto the little hot hatch including the red grille stripe, a new honeycomb grille, new front and rear bumpers along with a dual exhaust setup. Inside, many of the updates found on the Golf GTI have been adopted, namely a flat-bottom steering wheel, plaid upholstery, red stitching and gloss-black trim.

This car is European only, so those who want a small German hot hatch will have to make due with the Golf GTI.
